Remembering
My Past

HURLOCK FIRE DEPT ENGINE 7 (2003)
I started my firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter with the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department, in 1989. In 2000 then I married and moved to Illinois. During those years I was also a member of the Preston Volunteer FD, and the Federalsburg Volunteer FD. From 1996-1999 I was employed with the St. Michael's FD as a EMT-B/FF/Diver, 1999-2000 until I moved I was employed with The US Naval Academy FD IAFF local F-254 in Annapolis MD. During my time with St. Michael's I also became a firefighting instructor with the University of MD Fire & Rescue Institute. Since moving to Illinois in April of 2000, I learned that Illinois will not accept other state's fire training, I went to the police academy and am now in law enforcement and have been since moving here. I miss firefighting very much, and will continue to argue the fact that we all train under the same NFPA standards and that every state should accept other states' training. I am not the only one in Illinois that agree's with this, so we at CIFN will continue to voice our opinion on this issue. I have met a lot of good people in the fire service over my years as a firefighter and instructor. I will never forget the training I have taken and the great instructors I had who taught me how to be a great firefighter, I continue to keep up with changing laws and news in and around the fire/ems service's around the nation, in hopes that someday other states training will be accepted in all states.
Everyone stay safe!
